The Washington State University Master Gardener Program is a volunteer service gardening organization. WSU Master Gardener Volunteers provide professional, unbiased, research-based home gardening and horticulture information to the public. In order to prepare volunteers for this role, WSU Thurston County Extension trains committed gardeners in basic botany, soil science, plant identification, pest and disease diagnosis, integrated pest management, and more. Volunteers then donate their time and knowledge in demonstration gardens, clinics, and in other garden-related activities in order to fulfill their required service hours needed to become certified Master Gardeners.
